What is the difference between open and closed adoption?

The adoption triad is made up of the birth parents, adoptive parents, and the adoptee. Think of that relationship like a triangle—you are all connected as a forever family.

Remember:

  • • You can choose how much or how little contact you'd like with your child after he or she is born.
  • • You can communicate your preferences with the family you are considering placing your baby with.
  • • You can work together with the family you choose in setting healthy boundaries and expectations that fosters a strong relationship of respect within your forever family.
  • • You can change your mind.
